Homeschooling and University Admission
Can homeschooled students go to university?
Universities admit on the basis of qualifications, evidence of academic ability and, where required, entrance or standardised tests. A homeschooled applicant needs the same things a schooled applicant needs, presented clearly: a recognised qualification, transcripts or results, references and a credible record of learning.
Thinking backwards from the goal
- 1
Recognised qualification
Choose the board or route the target institutions accept.
- 2
Documentation
Maintain transcripts, course descriptions, reading lists and grades.
- 3
Standardised tests
SAT, ACT or country-specific tests where the institution requires them.
- 4
Profile
Projects, competitions, volunteering and references that evidence capability.
- 5
Applications
Read each institution's homeschool applicant policy directly.
Admission policies for externally qualified and home-educated applicants differ per institution and change over time. Lucas Homeschooling provides educational guidance and pathway planning, not a guarantee of eligibility or admission.
